Fun Games to Play With Your Ferret And Why To Play Them

If you have a ferret and have, or have ever had, a toddler, you may notice that they like similar games. Exploring new things, chase and tug-o-war are some examples.
Ferrets do enjoy having the fun, but most games tell you a lot about their natural and instinctive behaviors as well. For instance:
- Ferrets are tunnelers so digging and rolling around in the dirt or a similar substance comes naturally.
- They also have a high need for a variety of stimulation so exploring games are great for them.
- Predatory behaviors are served by chase and hide-and-seek games. While a domestic ferret will not survive in the wild, they still have some of the hunting instincts of their cousins.
- Tug-o-war and other mock combat games are great for a couple of reasons. They feed the hunting instincts as well as allowing them to compete for top ferret ranking status.
There are a ton of toys available for you and your ferret to play with, but sometimes the most fun can be had with very simple things.
If you notice your ferret hopping back and forth in front of you or tugging the toes of your socks or pants, he wants you to play. Your best course of action at this point is to get on all fours and engage him. You are his favorite toy!
Our favorite game has always been “The Towel Game”. This involved us waving the towel around the ferret’s head to get him motivated. After a few seconds he was jumping around and trying to catch the towel. He knew when he caught it we’d drag him around on the bathroom or kitchen floor. He loved sliding around and it always got him doing the Weasel War Dance and dooking!
- Wash rag tug-o-war has also been a favorite for a long time!
- They loooove chasing remote control cars!
- Ferrets love some wrestling!
- Bury his favorite toys in a box of shredded paper and watch the excitement as he finds the toys!
I want to hear about your favorite ferret games! Tell me about them in the comments below.

Towel rides are the best!
We hunt out all their toys from the basement ( they have the whole thing for themselves, no cage- so spoiled ) and put them on a table. They get totally crazy and go about putting everything back where each item ‘belongs’. So cute!
A ferret runs into the tunnel. We roll a ball in after them and they push it back out. We go back and forth rolling the ball in and out of the tunnel.
Blanket rides.
Ferret bowling (gently laying ferret on his side and sliding him across a slick floor)
